Length of Training
The minimal education requirement for an electrocardiographic technician is a high school diploma or its equivalent. Training for EKG technicians is usually on-the-job and generally lasts from 8-16 weeks. While in training, they are under close supervision by an experienced EKG technician or cardiologist. Some community colleges, hospitals, and vocational-technical institutions offer more specialized training lasting from 1-2 years.  

Licensure/Certification
Currently there are no licensing requirements for electrocardiographic technicians.
