Length of Training/Requirements
To be a medical nuclear technologist requires completion of an accredited educational program, which is usually one to two years in length and leads to a certificate or an associate’s degree. There are also Bachelor’s degree programs across the country.

Certification/Licensure
All employers require certification or licensure for employment. A nuclear medicine student will make an application to take the national exams after completing the requirements of the college or university. Licening is available from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certifcation Board. (See below for related websites.)

Educational Programs
The following educational programs in Texas have been approved by the Joint Review Committee of Educational Programs on Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT). For more information, visit www.jrcnmt.org.
