A biotechnologist works in a lab to develop new products or processes involving genetic engineering. They may design new drugs and medical treatments that help cure diseases such as cancer, AIDS, and the common cold. Biotechnologists can also work in forensics and analyze DNA. A biotechnologist involved in research typically needs a bachelor of science degree. Depending on the level required in the lab, an advanced degree may be required. Research could be related to agriculture, biology, genetics or medicine.
