A Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team who plans and calculates the ionizing radiation dose for the treatment of cancer under the direction of a medical physicist. Primary duties include tumor localization, providing radiation protection, providing and modifying immobilization devices for accurate treatment, and assisting in inserting radioactive substances inside body cavities for the treatment of cancer.

Areas of Specialization
Medical Dosimetrists may specialize in a particular population (e.g. pediatrics or geriatrics) or they may specialize in a particular cancer (e.g. breast cancer or pancreatic cancer).

Work Environment
The majority of medical dosimetrists work in hospitals, clinics, cancer treatment centers and research labs.
